LG Display Q2 get surges on TV sales, tight supply. Televisions.

SEOUL, July 9 (Reuters) - South Korean inactive box maker LG Display Co Ltd (034220.KS: , , ) reported on Wednesday its openwork profit more than trebled thanks to strong demand for flat-screen televisions and solidly supplies of PC panels. LG Display (LPL.N: , , ), the world’s No. 2 maker of large-sized running crystal displays (LCDs), posted a 759 billion won ($738.3 million) reticle profit in the second quarter to June 30, compared with 228 billion won earned in the year-earlier interval and 717 billion won in the January-March quarter.

The follow-up was in line with a forecast for 752 billion won from ten analysts surveyed by Reuters. But concerns are growing about the profitable crystal display (LCD) industry’s standpoint as a global economic slowdown threatens to depress consumer spending while falling panel prices are set to injury margins. Analysts had widely expected a downturn to hit the sector at the end of the year, but they mean that slowdown could come sooner and lead to a longer-than-expected slump. Shares in LG Display, merit about $12 billion in market value, fell 11.8 percent in the second quarter against a 1.7 percent reduction in the broader market as the industry’s outlook dimmed.

Korean consumer goods makers were considered nothing better than down-market imitators of Japanese giants. The corporation had gone through a failed affiliation in India with Chandra Kant Birla and an international brand makeover from Lucky Goldstar to LG. Still, in a few laconic years, Kim made LG India’s largest consumer electronics firm.

Starting from scratch, the name brand has progressed to universal recall. The short-lived is somewhat similar for Kim, now on the rolls of Videocon, owned by the Dhoot brothers. The brothers want to become a drag to reckon with in the international market in double quick time.

LG Becomes 4th Biggest Mobile Handset Maker. Phones.

LG Electronics became the world’s fourth largest animated phone maker in the key quarter by surging to the fore of SonyEricsson for the first time since 2006. The maker of Viewty and Prada phones now joins the elite heap of Nokia, Samsung Electronics and Motorola in the cell phone market. Furthermore, LG sees that it will be able to influenced ailing Motorola in the second half of this year.

SonyEricsson, which is owned by Japan’s Sony and Sweden’s Ericsson, said on Wednesday that it sold 22.3 million alert phones between January and March, down from 30.8 million in the earlier quarter. Meanwhile, LG Electronics shipped 24.4 million units in the January-March years to steal the fourth sentiment in the global market share.

Funai shares hit 9. Electronics.

TOKYO, April 9 (Reuters) - Shares of Japan’s Funai Electric Co (6839.OS: , , ) jumped to a 9-week peak after Philips Electronics (PHG.AS: , , ) said the organization could use its manufacturer to supply flat TVs in North America, giving Funai access to the premium TV market. Shares of Funai rose as much as 14.2 percent on the announcement, before trading up 5.5 percent at 3,630 yen by 0535 GMT.

Funai, which sells a massive piece of its products through Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N: , , ) under the Emerson brand, aims to converse shrinking call share with the help of Philips, North America’s No. 6 maker of flowing crystal display TVs. Under the agreement, Philips, which booked an operating shrinkage of 71 million euros on its global TV business on 6.27 billion euros in sales in 2007, would certificate its Philips and Magnavox brands to Funai for at least five years in the United States and Canada.
